Case Study:

British Cycling gains pace with Nasstar

Nasstar implements a reliable, proactive fully managed service to support growth

British Cycling is the national governing body for cycling in Great Britain. Formed in 1959 through the amalgamation of the National Cyclists Union and the British League of Racing Cyclists, it is committed to transforming Britain into a better place to ride for everybody, proudly hosting over 164,000 members across the UK ranging from 14 months to 99 years old.

Since the early 1990s, British Cycling has operated out of the HSBC UK National Cycling Centre in Manchester. The centre was expanded in 2011 with the construction of an indoor BMX track and new offices for British Cycling, thanks to an additional £24 million investment from Manchester City Council, Sport England and the European Regional Development Fund to firmly establish Manchester as the home of cycling. Backing this is a 250-strong workforce to encourage and support customers, commuters, and colleagues to ride their bikes and improve all forms of cycling in communities nationwide.

Fully Managed Support Services

Cyber Security as a Service

The Brief

Nasstar was initially approached by British Cycling in 2017 to provide fixed-price IT support and monthly reporting to work in harmony with their internal IT team’s fluctuating requirements. This included unlimited 1st and 2nd line incident support to end-users to allow the internal IT team to focus less on the day-to-day tasks and place emphasis on strategic projects that would enhance the delivery of services to their clients. However, with the ambition to progress with a Cloud strategy in 2019 and continue its growing success as the world’s leading cycling federation, British Cycling required further IT support and looked to trusted provider Nasstar to extend their contract with an enhanced Managed Services offering.

The Benefits

British Cycling now benefits from a Managed IT Support offering with a dedicated escalation point, 24/7. In addition, the out-of-hours support and proactive monitoring provide maximum availability of all services to employees to ensure they can fulfil their ambitions.

The Solution

Nasstar provided a cost-effective and fully integrated Managed IT support service, acting as an extension to British Cycling’s in-house IT team and providing additional capacity and specialist services where skills are not available in-house. This included a 24/7 incident and service request service desk entity for consistent and high-level support for the end-user, resilient server and network infrastructure monitoring to ensure maximum uptime of services, and fixed-user pricing built entirely to support their business requirements. This allowed British Cycling to add further capability to their highly skilled in-house team; leveraging the significant technical resource available within Nasstar to provide escalation support whenever and wherever they required it. The service was further enhanced by reporting and extensive patch and system updates to ensure British Cycling’s infrastructure is protected to the highest possible level, guaranteeing that their systems remain robust at all times.

In addition to the Fully-Managed IT support, Nasstar implemented a Managed Security Service to ensure British Cycling’s security posture remains insuperable at all times. Incorporating Advanced Threat Management, advisory services, and vulnerability and compliance management, the services are monitored 24/7 from Nasstar's Security Operations Centre (SOC). These services are further backed by Nasstar's dedicated Security Analysts who monitor and remediate incidents end-to-end to reduce the impact of potential security events.

As we work towards fulfilling our ambition of transforming Britain into a truly great cycling nation, we needed a partner with a resilient Managed IT service to support our operations. Nasstar’s Fully Managed IT service provides us with endless benefits, providing robust end-to-end management so we can invest in strategic projects, a large team of technical experts who not only know their stuff but are friendly and helpful too - plus round-the-clock support whenever we need them.
