The Brief
As Churchill continued to grow its backup infrastructure had reached capacity. With tape backup traditionally laborious to control and expensive to run, as well as similar hardware proving tricky to procure, an alternative solution was needed. To ensure that their data would continue to be securely backed up Churchill decided to review its strategy, tasking Nasstar, with finding an easy-to-manage solution that could be easily scaled as the company continued to expand.

The Solution
Nasstar recommended their SecureVault Cloud Backup service to fulfil Churchill’s requirements. Powered by industry-leading software from Carbonite, SecureVault offers a backup solution that leverages the flexibility of Cloud and can scale up or down to meet Churchill’s business needs – something that the existing tape backup could not provide easily or without additional upfront expense. Should Churchill require it, the company could also add Disaster Recovery functionality at a later stage with the same ease. Highly efficient de-duplication also further minimises storage costs.
As with any security-conscious business, Churchill was keen to ensure its data would be protected at all stages of the backup. SecureVault provides encryption at all three stages of backup – at source, in transit and at rest – and is FIPS approved as certified by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), resulting in an ultra-secure backup environment. Data is backed up to Nasstar's private Cloud, which not only operates to ISO9001 and ISO27001 standards but is housed in Vodafone’s highly-resilient and secure Tier 3 data centre. Data is also replicated to a secondary data centre for additional protection, providing support failover and data access in the unlikely event of a data centre outage. An additional benefit of Cloud Backup is that once configured, data backups will be completed with the data shipped off-site automatically, offering the easy-to-manage solution that Churchill needed.
We have ambitious plans to significantly expand the size of our business over the next five years and need a robust backup solution we can rely on. SecureVault is a great solution to meet this requirement, and the flexibility for it to grow with us is a huge benefit.
